The capital city of Latvia is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. It’s also an up and coming destination for young people who want to go on holiday but need to do it on a budget. Riga is also famous for its vibrant night-life as a result of this (and the fact that it’s so cheap) many young men visit the city on a Riga stag do.
However regardless of why you’re visiting the city, there’s plenty to see and do. For example the city is home to the largest collection of Jugendstil (German) art nouveau architecture in the world and examples if it can be seen on Alberta and Elizabetes street. Other famous Riga sights include St Peters Church which is Riga’s oldest church.
Inside the tower there’s a lift that takes you to the top where visitors will be treated to a panoramic view of the city. I should also mention that the best way (in my opinion) to see the city is to go on a guided tour. There’s a free one which runs every day from St Peter’s Church at 12:00pm (look for a bright yellow suitcase!) Anyway from the tower you can see the whole of Riga and the river Daugaya which splits the city. Old town can be found on the east side and is a popular area for tourists. Near this area, you can also find the Freedom Monument which is considered to be a national symbol of freedom for Latvia and the Lamia clock where they produce Latvian chocolate. Outside of the city there’s isn’t too much to see, there are some Soviet-esque buildings that serve as a reminder of how Latvians used to live.
So if you needed stag do ideas for Riga (or just general holiday tips) then hopefully this will have helped you!
